This CD is full of fun, swinging guitar that comes from a place where jazz, swing and blues live happily together. That is evident simply by the presence of the three frontmen. Gerry Beaudoin is known to the jazz guitar community and is active in the Benedetto Players concerts. Jay Geils may be best known from the blues-rock band he fronted in the 70s, but is more than competent in this idiom. Duke Robillard bridges the gap between the classic blues of T-Bone Walker (check out his excellent video) and the swing of Charlie Christian.

Tracks 1, 2, 3 and 7 are original material for this disc, the rest being from previous releases. Each tune has its own personality, from the cool, relaxed cover of All Blues to the romping trio swing of Jim Jam. There's even a straight out blues track at the end featuring Geils and harpist Mudcat Ward. But the primary feeling here is old-school swing. Broadway, I Can't Get Started, Exactly Like You and Time's A Wastin' are virtual time machines that transport the listener back to the late 30s. And it's a nice ride.

Beaudoin even does a turn as vocalist on a few tracks and he does a mighty fine job. It does a guitarist good to hear a vocal performance of a song. It helps in the tune learning process. This is a great CD for learning some of the lesser known jewels from that period.

Favorite tunes of mine here include Flying Home, Exactly Like You and Time's A Wastin'. That's a tough choice because all the tunes are a load of fun to listen to. Pick up this CD and you'll see what I'm talking about.
