Charlie Byrd dead at 74
From Tony Pompa
You're probably getting this news from a variety of sources, but in case
not, I just thought you'd be interested to know that I heard an NPR
report
today (Thursday) that Charlie Byrd passed away last night at his home in
Annapolis, MD. He was 74.
In addition to his career as a leader and member of the Great Guitars,
Charlie also was a founding member of the Washington Guitar Quartet,
whose
repertoire included a variety of classical, jazz, bossa, and pops
arrangements. As far as I know, Charlie is the second member of the WGQ
to
pass on. Legendary educator John Marlowe, another member, died about six
years ago.
